I received the email below today which is funny for all sorts of reasons, not least that I had intended to go here today to protest the Mexican Government’s recent attacks on Zapatista territory; this also being the day that these protests were held.

Federal Election - 24 November 2007
The Prime Minister has announced that the Australian Federal Election will
take place on Saturday 24 November 2007.

If you will be overseas on 24 November you have a number of options
available to you to cast your vote if you wish to do so. These options
include:

Pre-poll voting facilities will be available at most Australian
international airports. Details of airports with this service can be found
on the Australian Electoral Commission website (www.aec.gov.au)
You can lodge a postal vote application, which can be also be
obtained via the Australian Electoral Commission website and from the
Australian Embassy in Mexico City.
The Embassy in Mexico City will also offer pre-poll voting in the
period from Monday 12 November 2007 to Friday 23 November 2007 between 0830
and 1715 daily. (Please note that the Embassy will be closed on Monday, 19
November due to a local public holiday.)

Further information concerning the election can be obtained from the
Australian Electoral Commission website . If you are unsure about whether
you are eligible to vote or to establish your enrolment information, please
check the AEC website online (www.oevf.gov.au), by telephoning +61 2 6271
4411, or by emailing info@aec.gov.au.

Enrolment and voting by Australians who are overseas at the time of the
election is not compulsory. If you are not in Australia on election day you
will not be fined if you do not vote.

The Australian Embassy in Mexico City is located at Ruben Dario 55, Colonia
Polanco. For information regarding the election, or to request a postal
